Taiwan's Arima, Compal Land Smartphone Orders from LG
July 24, 2009
Taiwanese mobile phone ODM (Original Design Manufacturing) makers Arima Communications and Compal Communications have landed Smartphone orders from Korea's LG, Economic Daily News of Taiwan reported on July 20. LG reached a collaborative agreement with Microsoft at the beginning of 2009 to launch 50 models of Smartphones on Microsoft platform in five years, and the Korean company therefore began releasing high-end Smartphone orders to Taiwanese makers, according to the Economic Daily News report. It is reported that Compal will begin shipping Microsoft platform-based Smartphones to LG in the second half of this year. Arima, meanwhile, is expected to begin shipping Smartphones powered by MediaTek chipsets, on both Microsoft and Google Android operating systems, in the first quarter of 2010 at the earliest. Arima is expected to first ship five entry-level mobile phones to LG in the second half of this year.
